The present budget problems are not McGreevey's fault but were bequeathed to him by Whitman.

It was a Democratic legislature all the way through, John. The left are spendthrifts. History proves it.

I'd call that a complete evasion. The fact that you're overspending on "good, socially useful, worthwhile programs" doesn't cut it. At the end of the day, you're still overspending. CA probably has more "good, socially useful, worthwhile programs" than any other state. You can see the mess it has led to. This recall is NOT part of some grand antidemocratic (How CAN an election be "antidemocratic", anyway?) plot by Republicans. It is the result of disaterous incompetence and recklessness by Davis.
