Venture Capital fundraising held steady in the third quarter, with VCs closing eight new funds with overall committed capital of $1.2 billion, based on announced closings reported by VentureWire. Those numbers are almost identical with the second quarter, when 12 firms closed funds worth $1.2 billion and up considerably from the same year-ago quarter when nine venture capital firms closed funds totaling $615 million. Limited partners showed continued confidence in life science investing, as five of the new funds will be devoted all or in part to opportunities in biotechnology, medical devices, and eHealth.
