the man would be merely goofy.

Huh?

I know women who won't get gynecological examinations from male doctors. Are they goofy, too? Or merely hyper-sensitive?

Yet as a patient you certainly have every right to choose a male doctor if that is who you feel comfortable with. I choose women for GYN for that reason- and that is perfectly fine. When I call my insurance company for referrals I ask for the women doctors in my area, if it is for gynecology. I think we are allowed some private choices where our privates are involved. But that is as a patient choosing whom to go to- not as someone offering a service, as a business- which is, I think, inherently a more private matter.
