Ranks Of US Millionaires Swells To 3.8M - NFO Fincl Study

(Note the key statement: "who sit on investments, who invest over a long period of time and their assets have increased")

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The number of millionaires in the U.S. is on the rise thanks to diversified asset management, according to Jeannette Luhr, director at NFO Financial Services.

In an appearance on CNBC Monday, Luhr said a recent study by NFO found more than 3.8 million millionaires in the U.S. when measured by investable assets.

"These people are people who actively use advisers, who sit on investments, who invest over a long period of time and their assets have increased," she said.

Diversification of assets resulted in a greater number of millionaires than ever recorded in the 22 years of the study, she said.

The study reports that the average age of the millionaires is 63, and that 20% are business owners and 59% are retired.

Luhr agreed with the statement that the "rich are getting richer and the poor are getting numerous."
