Here in California, my wife teaches 150 chemistry students each day with a class/lab budget of 2 cents per student per day...

Hi, DM. Welcome aboard! Assume for the moment that your number is right, and it sounds close. That means a 30 student class room cost 255K per year. Deduct the teacher with bennies at 75k, and you have an overhead of 180K per year per classroom.

It becomes pretty obvious where the money is going.

You need to remember where this conversation started. With comments about the flagship higher education campuses. But, if you wish to assert any number as an average, a median, or whatever, please offer a link as well as a link which places it in the overall matrix of states. We can then argue about just how relevant that data is relative to cost of living, etc.
