the answer is really quite simple ... the handling cost between cargo ship and factory door of the raw material in the US is so much more expensive than same handling in China,
Jay you are bang on.. I think that most people would be amazed at the intermediary and ancillary costs applied to food between the farm and their shopping cart. It is one reason why it so hard to really buy wholesale here... it would expose so much..

Just those little flyers advertising the weekly specials aren't what they appear to be... They are actually a money maker for the chain stores aside from the advertising value....
