World War I Tanks Found
wkyt.com

Army personnel who helped train a new national army in Afghanistan brought home two relics of past warfare.

Major Robert Redding of the special forces for the Army National Guard based in Colorado found two World War One tanks while visiting an Afghan scrapyard filled with old fighting equipment.

Redding sent digital photographs of the tanks to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox with a note asking if the museum would be interested.

Colonel Tim Reese was quick to respond that the tanks were wanted for the museum.

The two F-T-18 tanks were built in France during World War One.

They are the same model as tanks used by General George S. Patton to train American troops in France in 1917 and 1918.

No one knows when the tanks were disposed of in the scrapyard.

Army officials said the French might have sold the equipment to Afghanistan.
