California is an expensive place to live only because everyone wants to live on or near the coast and we protect our coasts, which means a big part of them are protected. If Arnie tries to un-protect our coastlines, there will be rebellion. I dont mind paying a lot for real estate a quarter mile from the beach because I'd rather live here than anywhere else. And I have to laugh when Arnie or McClintock compares outr taxes to Nevada's. if we were in a desert full of casinos and strip clubs we could live tax-free too.

The "high cost of real estate" in CA has been limited to certain areas: the ones lots of people with money to spend want to live in. LA, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Marin County, Santa Barabara,....

If you go out to the Mojave Desert away from Palm Springs, real estate is dirt cheap. (ANd even in Palm Springs it isn;t that high compared to SV.) If you go to northern CA, around Oregon, they practically give it away in comparison to SV.
