See my list of 70's. I consider myself to have one of the best taste for movies, (pezz isn't going to like that) see for yourself. Bet a beer you will like all of them:

1) Vanishing Point
Art film and road movie collide for Vanishing Point, an existential car chase across the desert in a post Easy Rider America. Barry Newman stars as Kowalski, a taciturn driver who bets that he can drive a new Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco in 15 hours. He loads up on amphetamines and begins his odyssey through the contemporary west while a funky black DJ (Cleavon Little) turns the driver into a folk hero and broadcasts advice on dodging the cops. It's like a counterculture precursor to Smokey and the Bandit, with the road as the last bastion of freedom and the DJ as a combination commentator and mystical guide. The slim plot offers a network of society drop-outs that aid the "last free Man on Earth" (as the DJ describes him) on his obscure but obviously symbolic quest while flashbacks paint Kowalski as a world-weary hero. It doesn't really make much sense, but the amazing car chases and excellent stunt work are stunningly set against the American west, beautifully captured by cinematographer John A. Alonzo. Vanishing Point is most assuredly a product of its time, the heady, anything-goes era of rebellion in the early 1970s. --Sean

3) Little Murders
This is a strange movie that lies between strange and dangerous. Elliott Gould is fascinating as the world weary and world famous photographer who spends his afternoons taking pictures of Dog feces. He used to make a greater effort towards his work, but realized the art world couldn't tell the difference between what was good and what was crap. So he decides to literally take shots of...crap. Lo and Behold, he continues to win awards for his work. Deepening his sense of the meaningless of life. That's the strange part.

The dangerous part lies mainly in the film's underlying current of social unrest. Stemming largely from the idea that life is meaningless and essentially without value. Random beatings, random murders, all help our protagonist over the edge. Yes this a comedy, but it is a dark comedy.

If you happen to find a copy of this out of print film, you will be in for a treat (check eBay periodically). And that comes by way of a brilliant cameo by Donald Sutherland, who plays a priest lost in an existentialist haze. That alone is worth the price of admission!

4) The Hellstrom Chronicle
Aamazintg semi-documentary one day the insects will inherit earth. A must see.

7) The Other
One of the scariest movies ever made! The Other should be a classic, but is so severly over-looked! This should be seen only by people who like psychological horror films. This isn't for the Scream-Generation, this is for intelligent people

8) Planet of the Apes (The original)
You know this one.

9) Omega Man
Charlton Heston plays the government researcher behind the ultimate biological weapon, a deadly plague that has ravaged humanity. There are two groups of survivors: a dwindling band of immune humans and an infected, psychopathic mob of light-hating quasi-vampires. The infected are led by Mathias, a clever, charismatic man set on destroying the last remnants of the civilization that produced the plague. Heston has a vaccine--but he and the few remaining normals are outnumbered and outgunned. By day, he builds a makeshift version of the nuclear family (with Rosalind Cash as his afro-wearing, gun-toting little lady). They plan for the future while roaming freely through an empty urban landscape, taking what few pleasures life has left. By night, they defend themselves against the growing horde of plague victims. Both a bittersweet romance and a gothic cautionary tale, The Omega Man paints a convincing portrait of hope and despair. It ain't pretty, but it's a great movie.
