* Alcoholism treatment options -- A pair of studies presented different ways of delivering drug therapies to recovering alcoholics.

While pills exist that can combat alcohol addiction, the biggest problem is that people stop taking their medications and revert back to drinking. The two new options being studied are an injectable gel and an implanted device, both of which would give doctors more control over their patients' treatments.

A gel form of Naltrexone, a drug used to treat drug and alcohol addiction, was found to be steadily released in test mice, according to researchers at the University of Tennessee and Mississippi State University.

Rods of Nalmefene, a anti-alcoholism drug, were implanted in mice and found to release the substance in a steady state during a two-month study, according to research from Titan Pharmaceuticals, the Southwest Research Institute and Behavioral Pharma, Inc.
