Chris,

reyet Davis got no credit for this or took the care to get this message out.....

For a seasoned politician he sure ran a lousy race full of mud slinging at the end. Tripling car tabs was I think the last straw with those bills arriving in the voters mailboxes just as the recall got legs.

When I came to Washington state in 1997 the first vote I went to was for 695 to limit our tabs to $30. I paid $520 to register my car the first year I lived here and $500 the next (tabs are only good for a year here). We won that vote in Washington and I have saved over $5000 taxes in the past few years on two vehicles and haven't noticed any issues with roads in this state. I've actually seen far more construction in the past two years than ever before.

Car tabs disproportionately affect the lower income folks far worse than any other tax.

I was in Irvine last Saturday and heard some of Davis's wife speak at the San Diego league of women voters - she sounded (to me) very polished and made her points quite well - even though I disagreed with some of what she said. Her husband on the other hand is such a boring speaker compared to her.
