That didn't do it either. It seems that the display adapter automatically returned to a refresh rate of "optimal" from the 60 Hz rate that I had previously selected when I got the new monitor.

The new monitor, a 17" Hyundai flat panel display, that is on sale at Fry's for $297.99 after $100 rebate, is going to be returned because text is not nearly as crisp as on my Sony Viao laptop.
