Oh, Michael, you do twist things around don't you. The phrase "politics of personal destruction" was coined by Clinton to deal with the repeated attacks on him.

I trace its genealogy back to Newt Gingrich's attack on Jim Wright but whatever you consider its origin, there is little doubt that it's part and parcel of our political system at the moment.

Your guy, Bush, used it on McCain in South Carolina in absolutely objectionable ways; Ken Starr used it in the most objectionable ways, under cover of a legal mandate, remember that publishing of the raw data of FBI files, no, you wouldn't recall that; and on and on and on and on.

I don't doubt that you or someone else could come up with a list from the opposite side.

Life goes on. In our much lamented political system.
