Today a tech came to the house and measured the cable signal where it goes into the modem. The signal was very low.

That's what they determined was my problem, except the specific
weak link was the splitters.

I had a TW roadrunner service call about 6 months ago. My cable internet service was acting goofy...general slowdown of downloads etc. It turned out to be the cable line from the telephone pole to the house. The service rep said that squirrels had been chewing on the cable. He said that it isn't unusual and over time most cable lines get degraded by our animal friends. It vastly improved my internet cable service and also my cable TV reception. You're paying for the service and the service call is free so make the gougers earn their exorbitant fees.<G>

I've got 5 TV's hooked up to cable with at least 2 splitters and a line signal booster.

On a related topic...here's a decent set of tools to test connection speed and security...simple to use. I don't remember them having been posted before, although they may have.
