I don't agree that Schwarzenegger is a Kennedy. He's his own man. In an old interview of his, he had said that America is a land of opportunity of which most Americans seem oblivious. And he acted on what he perceived to achieve his success. I agree with his call about many Americans, for which I blame the stultifying school system. Schools tend to put people in their "place" and drill into them that there's no use reaching for the stars - because - hey, they're just too far away. My first husband lived in Costa Rica from age two to age eight. He couldn't speak English when he returned, but quickly learned it and quickly became a no limits kind of person who had a successful contracting business in SF and then achieved his dream to become a commercial pilot. I had a friend who grew up in Mexico. When he moved to this country, he made it work for him, getting a great accounting job, and within a year, buying a lovely home in the SF Bay Area. Is being bi-lingual helpful? or is being an "outsider" being able to see the undiscovered treasure of this country the catalyst for success? I don't know. Granted Bill Gates succeeded and is - this year - the richest man in America. He dropped out of college, though, probably because he had always been a maverick in school.

I do believe we are so inculcated with a defeatist attitude that we often miss opportunity. But, let's get back to Arnold. Here's a guy who decided he was going to be world champion body builder and accomplished that. Though he could barely speak intelligible English, he became an enormous box office draw and star. He managed to pull out of Planet Hollywood with a profit. He wooed and won the most beautiful Kennedy cousin. He announced his candidacy on Jay Leno, and two months later barely lifting a finger, he has succeeded in becoming governor of the fifth largest economy in the world. That's awesome. Don't forget, JFK had to stump for years to finally become president. AND, unlike Arnold, he didn't always win.

Maybe Arnold can save CA, maybe not. But no one can take away the fact the he has become governor, and he certainly did not accomplish this riding the Kennedy coattails.

Arnold's wife may be a Kennedy, born with a sterling silver spoon in her mouth, but Schwarzenegger has no one to thank except himself for his incredible success in picking up and running with the opportunities so many of us drop. IMO
