I remember reading an article a few years ago that said that the US in years to come would basically only provide intellectual goods to the world and would not be able to compete in manufacturing and such.
The article speculated that it would be a workable economy. I believe it was the same article that described " we send the world little pieces of green paper and they send us all kinds of stuff to eat and neat things to play with".
An interesting concept don't you think? Could we be seeing the swell of that wave beginning now vis a vis the impending lower US dollar and the obvious loss of manufacturing competitiveness? The CDN dollar has risen against the US dollar about 15% in the last few months. Given the sentiment in the world with regards to the impending demise of the US dollar value, it may be advisable to hold equities denominated in other currencies. eg: buying on other global markets. You might get two bangs for that buck.
I hope Jay Chen doesn't read this. This kind of talk absolutely makes him drool. :o)
