"I suppose he might have said something like, "I am not interested in a multi- layered discussion, since Solon and Chris are still on my back"."

Why would he add the lying qualifier? Why not end it accurately with the first conjunctive phrase? Do you see how you manipulate and inflame? I call that being phoney, as you know. I know that you prefer (as you have told us) to call it manipulation, but I think my word is better considering certain features of your habit.

I would suppose that you can talk about whatever you like, but Jewel still thought you were arguing against Mojo's freedom of conscience.

I recognized the confusion. My response was to state and restate and reiterate (I can find posts if I have to) my acceptance of that and to repeatedly complain that he wasn't listening or was being unduly suspicious. That got me nowhere, of course, just made him even more suspicious, and I should have given up earlier, but I kept believing that I was so close to breaking through. I can be very tenacious when I fancy myself close to triggering a light bulb. I really should get over that. I don't think I can be retrained away from wanting to give something I consider worthwhile every chance, but maybe I can retrain myself to interpret the prognosis more realistically.
