Not sure about the rest of the issues but if you want to see xls, go to a window, Tools, Folder Options, Files and Folders and make sure "hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Tim, yes - I have WinXP home. The Excel file I e-mailed to myself was created from 1-2-3. I don't have Excel on this PC, just Word 2000. Gottfried
