Hol cow look at the debt numbers in Canada! Why work hard in Canada when you can just get a handout from the Government. Look at how low those per capita domestic product numbers are. High unemployment, not a big surprise when you can get free low quality benifits for nothing from the Govt. Why risk capital there either or invest, when your risk adjusted returns will be sooooo low because of Govt confiscation. I would never start a high risk small business there where the Govt taxes will prevent you from earning an acceptable return on such an investment. I'm sure a lot of people think like that too. Most jobs are created by small businesses in this country, take away the incentive say bye bye jobs.

Isn't GDP a very misleading benchmark? I seem to remember an article on this explaining how out-dated and really irrelevant the GDP numbers are. GDP includes such things as military costs and real estate prices but does not include losses and damages to the economy, to trade imbalances, to natural resources, social costs, pollution, crime and other degradation. The GDP number makes America look amazingly rich, but it doesn't factor in the huge problems we have that many other countries don't have.
