Social conservatives"

That's a nice way to say "Religious Right." They are not all that way, but they either have those values also, or cater to them when running for office. A lot of the problem is age. Older voters tend to be more that way. I am offended by tattoos, for instance. I think of them as belonging on criminals and whores. Yet they are quite common with young girls now. I dance with many who have them, especially here in Hawaii.

The "Eagle" is liberal on Social issues, and conservative on economic ones. Kind of a hidden libertarian. But that is how libertarian ideas get into the mainstream. If they are right, they end up in the majority. It just takes time.

The young male voters coming up tend to be of this stripe. The young female voters tend to be the same, except more interested in "Mommy" issues, like Health care and Schools. They will vote left to get these.
