I like rice crispy bars. I like lots of things that are a long way from gourmet. I think Big Macs are delicious. When it comes to my favorite foods, I am particular. I will avoid them rather than eat second best. I don't buy papaya unless it is a perfectly ripe Maridol. I won't buy watermelon with seeds. I drive all the way to the Fresh Fields so I can get Chevretine cheese even though there are Middle Eastern groceries nearby that have dozens of varieties of feta. I'm not a picky eater. I will eat almost anything if placed in front of me. I just like what I like and can afford to be particular about the things that I care most about so I am. Seems to me, though, that gourmet implies snooty. Chevertine cheese qualifies but rice crispy bars don't.
