I tend to agree with the view of this piece.

Statements made by Putin about oil being priced in euros should be seen as a bargaining move. And a threat.

My guess is that Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc. will not make the move to euros. But they will use leverage created by threats to do so to get their way with Washington.

I am not in the least confident that Washington is intelligent enough to play this game without serious mistakes. The Wash. political establishment is insular, is sunk into a cesspool of inside-the-beltway power games, and is far more vulnerable than it knows.
