I don't think the NYT's coverage was anywhere near as critical of W's war marketing plan and the postwar fantasies the neocons put out as it should have been.

I completely agree. I think it's a bit encouraging to see the Washington Post doing more serious analysis on the Bush administration these days: the recent article on Rice; the ongoing stuff on the Wilson/Plame stuff.

I think the media overreacted to 9-11 by giving Bush a pass. Now things are getting back to normal. The kind of normal in which it's the business of good journalists to show the public the power struggles within administrations, to call them on hypocrisy, etc.
