Hi Michael. < you're just trying to make that pip-squeak little country New Zealand more relevant. Quit fishing and build a Navy first. :) > NZ is sending itself backwards fast. People are abandoning ship [moving to Oz, UK, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, China, and those who can't get in elsewhere are making do with the USA] as Helengrad slides its tentacles ever tighter around our throats and into our pockets. So NZ relevance to the rest of the world is insignificant. We are barely the 4th significant figure on Earth's human population of 6,000 million. We are barely a rounding error. But even the USA only affects the second significant figure and just exceeds the margin of error in market research polls for the Earth at not even 5% of the world's population.

Meanwhile, as the USA is finding, having noocular bombs which can blow up everything, Tomahawk cruise missiles which can zoom for 100s of kilometres and blow up lots of stuff, AC-130 Spectre gunships which can pave acres with depleted uranium in a minute, fighter aircraft which can swish along at several times the speed of sound, flying from aircraft carriers the size of small countries, with tanks which can race across deserts faster than my old Mitsubishi Chariot, firing shells with pinpoint accuracy not to mention ICBM MIRVs and fleets of B52s, doesn't actually do a lot against a guy with a box cutter, a person with utu in his mind and a truck full of diesel and fertilizer, nor a vengeful young woman with explosives strapped around her waist, nor even a Kiwi who might decide to abandon USA investments and purchases and support Hu Jintao's efforts in China, or better still, It's friendly embrace in cyberspace.

Sure, you can snicker at one pathetic Kiwi. But there are nearly 6 billion people who aren't American. That's a LOT of monetary voting power. Fortunately, despite popular rumour to the contrary, Uncle Al is doing a great job for Uncle Sam and Uncle Sam is keeping things on the rails so for now, things are stable enough, though the US$ drop shows how worried a LOT of people are about how the USA is going.

I don't have a lot of use for a NZ navy. I pay taxes towards USS Enterprise, USS Ronald Raygun and King George II's attacks on Osama's base and Saddam's HQ and to ensure China doesn't get uppity with Taiwan and that North Korea stays in their cage. They've done a pretty good job [with help of course from the Kiwis in Afghanistan].

But it's time to move on now and get the UN revamped into something sensible. My mate King George seems to be falling down on the job. But he has put Condominium Rice in the driving seat now [moving Rummy out] and maybe Colinisation Powell will have a bit more say too, now that the diplomatic approaches are obviously what's needed. So maybe he'll get with the programme yet, in time to even win the next election. He'll have to get a wriggle on though.
