I thought I was wondering about normal issues that would be raised. The unforeseen consequences alluded to were the remoter consequences of the matter.

The confusion was accidental. I am not sure that liability can be assigned. The question is, given the confusion, is he bound by the implicit contract? If he has the right to refuse service to a female, I am not sure that an agreement premised upon a mistake can be held against him. If he had solicited business I might feel that he had a greater obligation to make his terms explicit. But this was pure word of mouth referral, which is why I brought up the concierge's role. All of this is tentative, however.......
