Florida is split down the middle, as evidenced by the Pres election. There is no doubt that the wacko right has been emboldened recently. Still, if you look at the political distribution of real people, I think you would see a bell curve chart, with the vast majority towards the middle, thinking of themselves as moderately liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. The far right or left make much more noise, so they appear to be a bigger group. Truly, John, even if a majority of the people are centrists, it doesn't really matter. We are the next thing to an oligarchy because of the disinterest of Americans vis-a-vis their gov't. It only takes a few people to run this country. We think its a big election turnout if 60% of the registered voters actually vote. That's pitiful.Bush got elected because he ran as a harmless, moderate, compassionate, consensus building conservative. He turned out to be anything but those things, so I don't see him getting reelected unless the Dem's really, really blow it. The candidate that is closest to the middle wins. What does it matter now? The GOP controls the 4 largest states, the Congress, the presidency and a portion of our juidiciary......and Bush is not a centrist. Worse......the GOP did not get Congress nor the 4 largest states until AFTER he was in power for two years and it was clear his election campaign was a sham and he was not a CC. Do you honestly believe the posted comments on this thread are unique? If so, take a walk over to the GW Bush thread. Their uniqueness fades quickly over there. They are ideologues of the worse kind. From time to time, I play with them and get them up stirred up but they harken back to another era and are convinced that God is on their side. I think a vocal minority has gotten in control by playing off the embarrassment of Bill Clinton's bj. For two years, they silenced any opposition by claiming it was traitorous. They equated a criticism of the presidency with that of defecating on the flag. And it worked. If it wasn't for the foreign media going nuts, we would still be walking around on eggshells. Amazingly, the right are still trying to control the media and the public by stating that we are too negative on Iraq and that things are much better Iraq than reported. Frankly, John, I don't think its business as usual. IMO a pandora's box has been opened. ted
