To me that is the value of hyperbole. You get to exaggerate an opinion with the knowledge that Nobody takes it seriously simply because it is so outrageous that no one takes it seriously.

George Bush is the most decent and principled man to occupy the office since Reagan and his father. It might be easier to accept the argument of people who disagree with his policies without the invective. However, it is the invective that gets National news coverage and when the volume and quantity is what it is, facts no longer mean things because the rhetoric sways opinions.

I come back to my original statement. It is a sad thing that the political discourse in this country has sunken to the level it currently occupies.
