Spain and Germany are such different cases, both internally and in relation to the rest of the world, that your post is a pure non sequitur. You have on valid point, which is that we could have become allies under a different scenario. However, we rehabilitated Germany and guaranteed its place in Europe after the war, and, in fact, developed a strong alliance based on those actions. Without deNazification and the Marshall Plan, it is easy to envision a seething mass of discontent and radical political infighting, similar to that which lead to Hitler's ascent to power.........
