More evidence of senseless murder by the PALs. These dolts refuse to acknowledge diplomacy, Their rejection of civilized negotiation will subtract from them a lofty price.

Three Americans killed in explosion targeting U.S. diplomatic convoy in Gaza

BEIT LAHIYA, Gaza Strip -- A massive explosion ripped through a U.S. diplomatic vehicle Wednesday, killing at least three American security guards in the first attack on U.S. targets in the past three years of Israel-Palestinian fighting.

Israeli radio reports said four Americans were killed.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Islamic militants, responsible for the bulk of shooting and bombing attacks on Israelis in the past three years, refrained in the past from widening their choice of targets.

The United States is the main mediator in the conflict, and has repeatedly been accused by Palestinians of being biased against them.

The blast went off around 10:15 a.m. local time Wednesday as a three-car U.S. diplomatic convoy drove near a gas station on the outskirts of the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip, along the main north-south road.

The explosion apparently was set off by a remote-control roadside bomb, though Palestinian security officials initially said a suicide bomber jumped in front of the vehicle.

The explosion tore the van in half and left the wreckage twisted with the tires up in the air. The pavement was stained with blood and littered with bits of flesh.

An AP reporter saw a grey wire with an on-off switch leading from the scene of the attack to a small concrete room at the side of the road.

Mohammed Radwan, a Palestinian taxi driver, said he was at the gas station when the blast went off.

"I was about to fill up my car with gas when I saw the American convoy passing,'' Radwan said. "There was a Palestinian police car in front and then three big (U.S.) cars. When the third one passed, an explosion went off.''

"The first two cars drove quickly and stopped far form the explosion. Palestinian security people jumped out of the car and rushed to the car that had blown up. When I tried to approach them, they shouted at me to leave. I saw two people covered with blood lying next to the car.''

Palestinian officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said three Americans were killed and one was wounded. Israeli radio reports put the number of dead at four.

U.S. diplomatic sources said the people in the targeted car were security guards for the U.S. diplomats travelling in the other vehicles.

The bodies of two Americans were taken to local hospitals, one in Gaza City and one in the nearby Jebaliya refugee camp, Palestinian officials said.

Israeli radio reports said CIA officials were travelling in the convoy. Palestinian officials said the diplomats were U.S. monitors who are to supervise implementation of the U.S.-backed "road map'' peace plan.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia denounced the attack. "We strongly condemn this incident and we will conduct an investigation and we will follow it to find the source of this attack,'' he told reporters in the West Bank.

Palestinian witnesses, meanwhile, reported that about one kilometre east of the site of the explosion, Israeli tanks began moving closer.
