However, he credits Gore with acting in the nation?s best interests by not challenging the results of the 2000 election.

What? Gore played as hardball as he could on this, and lost. How many weeks of litigation? Five of the most hotly contested weeks of more scorched earth DC hardball style litigation/politics played out in more muliple venues that this country, and probably the world, has ever seen.

From my perspective as a litigator, it was fascinating. I watched every second on TV, as did much of the rest of the nation.

Gore conceded when there was noplace left to go. It was dead, Jim.

Now, strictly speaking, that wasn't true. Gore could have challenged Bush's slate of Florida electors in Congress, and kept it going on procedural grounts, but he didn't have the votes in Congress.

I kinda thought it would have been cool to have several weeks of acting-President Denny Hastert even though it was a foregone conclusion, just for the civics lesson for the kids.

Daschle would have fought it out to the last possible nanosecond.

The Jumping Jim Jeffords incident sure poisoned a lot of wells in this town. Daschle must be spitting poison and gnashing his teeth every time he thinks about the fact that 9/11 made the nation fall in behind Bush.
