Robert, you have made some good points to consider...
I think having a dominant market position in specific
industries or products provides necessary economic and political leverage. Exploitation, innovation, and
improvement of core strengths is the best way to insure market dominance.
Regarding globalization, if a company or country loses their dominant manufacturing position they become followers or consumers. In any case, there is a transfer of wealth from the consumer nation to the manufacturing
nation for the finished goods... the trick is keeping
the money circulating across borders and not being
amassed in one locale.
