Most of the suspects in the East Timor atrocities can be found in Aceh, doing the same thing all over again, with US funding. There are a couple of questions here. What level of misconduct are we willing to tolerate in exchange for nominal cooperation in the war on terror? What level are we willing to subsidize? We face those questions with regard to the Indonesian operations in Aceh and also with the Russian activity in Chechnya. Sooner or later they will have to be answered.
