Dood before you make another crack at China, take a visit someday. In a few years they're going to SMOKE europe economically and if you haven't concluded they're going to be a major major player in world markets, you better think again. They have all of the tools at their disposal to rival even US type wealth. Manufacturing, technology, and natural resources are all overabundant. They understand the japanese business model that exploded japan's economy, but they also have a pretty good grasp on what it takes to build a nation. If they'd quit screwing everybody over by keeping the rmb and the labor so damn cheap cheap cheap, they'd be allowed to play in the big kids sand box. But economically, politically and morally, it just isn't that simple. Rome wasn't built in a day, and if you haven't seen rural china, it makes 1910 rural alaska look like the freaking jetsons. No water, no electric, no freaking nothing. There are displaced rural people who come into the city in china and it is a completely new world to them. That's how far rural china is behind. Whereas you drive around Shanghai or Beijing and they have EVERYTHING you have here and some of it is WAY cooler, and WAY WAY WAY cheaper. It's not as though the those chicken bone folk aren't working their ass off for a better life, and I'll tell you right now, most of the kids of those chicken bone folk have a better life than their parents. You can't ask for much more. A lot of the problems you have with them socially, aren't all they are cracked up to be either. Yes, the economic discrepancy for people who are laborers in china is atrocious. Yes a majority of the people are getting absolutely bent over when it comes to real living wages. No different than the early america dood. People got killed in coal mines and killed because they looked different. The difference here? This is 2003 and there is a huge chunk of the population in China that is well educated, extremely economically and technologically savy, and they got computers, jet engines and lasers to build sh*t with. You can read whatever you want about sterilizations and one kid per family, meanwhile the average chinese reading about Ruby Ridge, Waco, Iraq, Iran, Korea, Israel, and a half dozen other things and drawing his own conclusions. But if there is a takehome message to this rant, it's that damn near everybody in that country is building something better at an ALARMING pace, and when there is enough for all in that country, you'll be singing a different toon.
