Either that or he was spending his money on that stuff he was putting up his nose. But the cost here is insane compared to what? Manhattan? Tokyo? There were LOTS and LOTS of high paying jobs in the valley then. They were all chasing housing. And they wanted to be close to or in Silicon Valley, not an hour and a half over the hill. THAT drives prices up. Yeah, a 750 sq ft apt could cost a bit north of $2K a month. But $95K in salary can do that.
