I'll admit to rooting for a Cubby-BoSox series, simply so that one of the two teams would finally get the monkey off of their backs... <g> When I was quite young, the Dodgers and the Giants hadn't yet departed the metropolitan area for the warmer California climates. And we also had the Phillies off to the west of south Jersey. And despite the fact that there were those 3 other teams in the NJ area, all we ever saw or heard on the television, radio, newspapers, magazines and so on was Yankees, Yankees, Yankees. It was like those other teams didn't even exist, except for being fodder for Yankee big guns in World Series play. I even remember the infancy years of the Mets. Back then (and to this day, I believe), the Yankees were/are the only baseball team the NY media cares about. So, because the Yankees got everything, and won everything, I grew up rooting for the other teams simply because I saw them as underdogs. I eventually became a Pirates fan, and my three favorite teams are now the Pirates, the Diamondbacks and whoever is playing the Yankees. <g> Strangely, I now find that I must root for the Marlins to defeat the Yankees in the Series. Why? I just can't get excited about the Marlins. I've tried. It doesn't work. The Marlins just aren't umm... inspiring... So, I'm going to root for the Yankees for a greedy reason. I figure that up to 99% (or thereabouts) of Wall Streeters must be Yankee fans. And if the Yankees win, then they (Wall Street) will be happy, and perhaps some of that happiness will eventually rub off on my portfolio. That said, I'll try to get Series tickets for a game in NY along the third base line, first row. I'll buy a Yankee baseball cap and wear a walkman radio to listen to the game while I watch the action. Perhaps a Marlin player will pop a foul ball somewhere in my vicinity... <g> KJC
