Go into a JC Penny and try to find much clothing made in the US. And yet people in the US can have more and better clothing than ever before because of a much lower price.

Bob,

If I had children they'd be darn sure headed for a quality education. One that would assure they wouldn't be headed for those "important "manufacturing jobs" you so dearly desire.

Everyone cannot go to school and come out a consultant or manager! The numbers simply do not add up. And throw away the manufacturing base and there will be even fewer jobs for the college grads to manage. This is not a concern to be had only in political years. These are real people behind real jobs which are vanishing. Micron Technology is one of the low cost producers of DRAM and yet they are based here. Japanese car manufacturers set up plants here. It is wholly disingenuous to say that we are unable to compete with the rest of the world.

Brian

Bob, I don't disagree with anything that you've said....I
understand the realities of participating in a global market and the dynamics of change... I embrace it with
some reservations.....my biggest concern/gripe is what you
touched on which is US manufacturers have been forced to
move operations overseas because of excessive taxation,
unrealistic union demands, and various legislation that
thwarts investment in US manufacturing..... My son is in
college to become an engineer.... but most engineering
disciplines directly support manufacturing in some form,
not necessarily the "dirty" businesses.... The US needs
investment in new manufacturing endeavors as new
technologies will breed other new support industries and
jobs and will spur the economy to keep it growing..... BB
