Thankfully, they have been thwarting such plans pretty efficiently, up to now.......

Suspicious Find
All Commercial Flights To Be Searched

POSTED: 12:34 p.m. EDT October 17, 2003
UPDATED: 1:05 p.m. EDT October 17, 2003

WASHINGTON -- Sources say the FBI is investigating the discovery of box-cutter knives on two Southwest Air Lines planes.

A law enforcement source says the discovery late last night prompted the government to order a security check of all U.S. commercial flights within the next 24 hours.

"The items were found by the airline while maintenance was done on their planes," Transportation Safety Administration spokesman Mike Fierberg said.

The source says the box-cutters and at least one note questioning air safety were found in three suspicious bags aboard the planes, which are now on the ground in Houston and New Orleans.

Officials say the bags were not found in luggage -- but wouldn't describe them further.

In addition to the box-cutters, officials found bleach and some form of clay. CNN reported that the bleach was put into emptied out tanning lotion bottles.

Mary Stanik with Northwest Airlines said her airline will comply with any directives the TSA calls for, but does not expect the searches to interfere with their flight schedule.
