Their heads and eyes can follow a moving object or move towards a loud sound (Zeman 796). Yet, these responses have been observed in patients in whom careful study has shown no evidence of awareness.

this does not make sense. if they respond to the sound, there is something in them that is aware of it. They must be defining awareness as something other than being aware of.

The problem in all of this is, how do we KNOW?
