Yes. The longest was 35 days when I was in my early twenties. Absolutely NO pain.

"? I have during some of the anti-war protests, and I can tell you, yes, there IS pain.

If that is true, I can tell you that your experience is not typical. There are plenty of sites that anyone can review to check that out. There is no argument on it.

I watched my mother starve to death as her colon cancer spread and finally blocked off her esophagus. It was a terrible thing. It may not have been like sticking a knife in your side, but it was agonizing. She had lots of morphine and it was her choice to have no feeding tubes or IVs, but she said it was terrible. I realize that some might say it was the cancer, but her requests were much more centered on food and ice than pain from the cancer. Even with the cancer, and the fact that she weighed about 75 pounds at the end, it still took almost two weeks to die after she was unable even to swallow an ice chip. She still begged for ice though, because the thirst was so great, but she would vomit it up, since it couldn't pass the blockage.
I would have to disagree with the doctors who say this is some sort of peaceful, gradual process.
