Theo will fire Grady within a week. (and if he doesn't he'd better refrain on sending out 2004 season ticket forms.....<ng>) Think of the Red Sox brass for a second. John Henry is the ultimate numbers guy; he loves Bill James and i'm sure never made as much as $1 dollar of his billions on a "hunch". Larry Lucchino was within 5 outs of ousting the "Evil Empire". Theo Epstein watched HIS guys (Ortiz and Millar home runs; Millar on base for Nixon's home run) account for much of the Sox offense and HIS bullpen that was so maligned during the regular year was pitching lights out and never got the ball -- Grady in an instant turned him from "Boy Wonder GM Builds Red Sox to World Series in First Year" to an historical after-thought. these guys are pissed, and Grady's head will be the price. and frankly, despite all the close-knit talk, i betcha the players are pissed. how do you think Timlin, Embree and Williamson really feel after Grady said "He's (Pedro) the one we wanted over anyone else in our bullpen"? how do you think the position players, who are already pissed at Pedro for putting them in harms way post the Garcia beaning on Saturday (after Todd Walker almost died in retaliation, how much does he like Pedro??), are feeling about Pedro's selfish request to be left in the game, and Grady acquiescing? Grady Little managed his last major-league game last night. We have a perfectly acceptable guy, Buddy Bailey, managing in Pawtucket right now; if i recall correctly he was a bench coach under Jimy Williams with the big-league team. God, i just cannot stop being pissssssssed about this. Cheers
