<EU-15 population on Jan 1st 2003 378M, acceding 10 states make 75M. That makes it a 20% increase.> Poland is in the middle rankings, with Spain. All the other 9 are small. None of the 10 are in the first rank, which is made up of Germany, France, UK, and Italy. The first rank has populations around 60M each (more for Germany). And if you rank them by size of economy (a more accurate measure of power), the 10 new nations look even smaller, in comparison to the first rank.
