Mahathir, not Chalabi, is the only realistic alternative to the Islamists.

Hardly.. Anyone who has to claim that 1.5 Billion Muslims are being repressed by 10+ Million Jews is hardly what I call, an "alternative"..

I say "anti-American", rather than "anti-Bush", because Mahathir has made a comprehensive critique of American economic, cultural, and military hegemony.

And he's offering what kind of alternative? Malaysia's rulers made a fortune offering their country for sale, only to find that when they couldn't economically perform, the global investing herd stampeded for the doors... Same thing happened in Thailand.. But you don't see them resorting to Anti-Americanism..

He is a nationalist. But he is one of those rare nationalists, who seek power by peaceful methods, rather than dreaming of military conquest.

I think you underestimate his ambitions... Let's see what he does when out of power...

Chalabi is a convicted thief, willing to allow the looting of his nation by foreigners, in the name of economic liberalism.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a particular fan of Chalabi, given his propensity for grand-standing and self-promotion...

But given that the Jordanian Hashemite regime was heavily involved in the corruption that existed in the Petra Bank, and that they charged and convicted Chalabi in absentia, hardly suggests that he's anymore a thief than the royal family was...

After all, that bank existed at the pleasure of the Hashemite royal family..
