Mahathir is quite mad and has been for ages.

I think religion and rationality are incompatible.

By deliberately accepting one lie, denying one's own perceptions, one never knows when to stop submitting one's own mind to somebody else's dogma. Mostly, I suspect that the religious are just going along for social convention and to stay in the good books of those in power who control the cash flow. The leaders are cynical liars, out for their own gratification as they must know they don't have a direct link to some deity, or they actually do have voices in their heads and need schizophrenia treatment.

Clinton clutching a bible and looking beatific while groping the girls in the vestibule is an example of religion as a disguise for social benefit. George Bush and Lt General Gumby actually seem to believe it! But maybe they are just better actors. I prefer Clinton's knowing dishonesty to actual madness. But neither do much for me.
