As I recall, before the war, there was a very active thread on this site.

Criticism of the gov't, its leaders, and its decisions were the order of the day. It is filled with columns from uncounted newspapers, websites, and blogs that are also critical.
And not one of the critics went to jail.

And not one of the critics has gone to jail.

And, now, after the "end of major hostilities" (when did that happen, again?), we're still supposed to shut up and salute the flag.
And you still don't. Not on either of those threads or on numerous others including this one. You yourself are proof of this.

So there always seems to be a good reason to silence the Peace Party.
So when is it you are planning on shutting up?

Freedom of speech means that the gov't cannot shut you up. It does NOT mean private citizens do not get to disagree with you or question your motives or loyalty. SHutting them up would be a violation of the freedom of speech you claim to be so fond of, but, in fact, apparently would love to see violated.

As I recall, before the war, the Peace Party was told to shut up and salute the flag, and trust the government

Yeah, that's why Ashcroft ordered those mass arrests of the demonstrators and re-instated the Sedition Act....what's that? he didn't?

Making your argument and losing is NOT the same thing as being deprived of your First Amendment rights, though you might think otherwise from the amount of whining going on.

So there always seems to be a good reason to silence the Peace Party

Well there is actually, that their arguments are stupid and they offer no policy alternatives even fit for adult discussion, let alone well thought-out proposals. But we know that's not going to stop stop them whinging all over the New York Time op-ed pages about how censored they feel. -g-
