Bush, Arnold trade compliments
RIVERSIDE, Calif., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- President Bush and California governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday held their long-awaited first meeting together since the state's recall election.

The two Republican stars traded compliments at an appearance in Riverside following a closed-door meeting scheduled as the president prepared to fly to Asia.

Bush kept his support for Schwarzenegger muted during the campaign, however Schwarzenegger introduced the president as both his own "dear friend" and the best ally California has in Washington.

Schwarzenegger has repeatedly said he would seek Bush's help in reining in the state's budget, however he told reporters Thursday he had not asked the president for anything specific.
