What would you prefer? World wide anarchy? The UN came about voluntarily and was intended as a democratic forum for all nations with the intention of solving conflicts and preventing another world war. It derives most of its actual power from the US. The US, however, refuses to act against anything the State of Israel does even if Security Council Resolution after Resolution has condemned Israel for its actions. If the UN is defunct, the responsibility for that can be laid at the feet of the US.
