What makes "sense" for me, probably wouldn't make "sense" to the Amish. That's really what the religious exemptions are all about- an acknowledgement of the differences between people and what "sense" they make of the world and its restrictions. I'm not sure what makes sense, from the point of secular logic, has anything to do with this- except when the court has to weigh in public policy. So we have two very different tracks in each of these cases- we have the secular logic of public policy, which the religious have no interest in, and we have the interest of the religiously minded, which the secular care nothing about- except, perhaps, as part of the notion of freedom of thought and expression.
