ethanol? an agriculture friend of mine sent me an article within the last year on ethanol production as an additive to gasoline. i wish i had kept it for it showed how getting ethanol from corn was more expensive and would stay more expensive than the gasoline production. perhaps it is the environmental and energy self sufficiency relationships that sell it over the cost issue. perhaps the sierra club should start pushing the loss of manufacturing jobs as an environmental issue too. perhaps someone has proved that much more pollution and greenhouse gas is released when a chinese factory worker makes a widget than when a us factory worker makes the same widget. it might cost more for the us to make the widget, but hey, who cares about cost when it is better for the environment.
