On whether the murder of 3000 [about] people and attempted murder of umpty others was a crime or merely an act of war, I'm inclined to the crime idea.

Then invading Afghanistan was illegal. We should have extradited Bin Laden, and failing that, relied upon Interpol to capture him and his associates...

And Pearl Harbor was a criminal act for which war was not justifiable..

It used to be that war was a state of existence in response to an intolerable act.

But like so much of society's culture today, everything seems to be tolerable... <sigh>

You prefer the censorship, approved thoughts and expression path.

I prefer self-restraint..

We censor our own thoughts each and every day in order not to offend others around us, or to avoid a fight (and/or jail)..

So apparently we've already accepted, as a society, that preserving one's freedom of speech doesn't give that person the right to insult, or undermine the freedom of speech of others, especially if they are the majority and locked in a war in which their family members are in harm's way..

What I'm getting sick of is this belief that the loudmouth minority has the right to intellectually tyrannize the majority, especially when the minority's logic is not based upon anything resembling reality or logic....

Offering one's opinion with regard to how to do things differently is one thing, but to do nothing but tell others how wrong they are, without offering viable alternatives of their own, is the kind of discourse that should be censored...

I certainly would expect someone to censor me if all I was doing was b*tching and moaning...

<...a crime or merely an act of war...>

The only difference between crime and war is scale.

If one person points a gun at me and takes something from me (my life, my freedom, my money) that's crime. If a million people do it to a million other people (using exactly the same methods, for exactly the same goals), that's war.

War is a respectable term for hooliganism practiced on a mass or national scale. -Mohandas Gandhi
