Do you know this to be true or is it just assumed to be true

Good Question. I based my comment on reports in the "Hoover Digest" www-hoover.stanford.edu and in the New York "City Journal" cityjournal.org plus a lot of reading of Magazine and Newspaper articles. They all show a general decline in test results for K-12 over the last 20 years.

The general sense that I get is that the top 25% or so do well. These kids only need an opportunity to learn and someone to point them in the right direction. The rest are not doing as well, and the bottom 25% are doing very poorly.

The National Testing is going to show very quickly just what is going on. Welcome aboard, TC!

<<In 1970 when I took the SAT and ACT, we just showed up on that Saturday and took the test. >>

I took them back in '65. We took them in the school library and it also happened to be opening day of small game season, rabbits and pheasants opened at noon that day. Shotguns, ammo and hunting coats were stacked in the back of the room, the knives we kept on our belts. At 11:30 it was announced that those going hunting could leave and everyone else had another 1/2 hour. Several of us left plus a couple of the teachers. Imagine that today.
